i am writing, you are reading, thank you.
the television. the picture tube has played a large role in my life. as a young L'Enfant the moving pictures of food would captivate me for hours. i was lucky to grow of age in the beginning of the food television era. Justin Wilson is probably one of the first television food memories i have, followed by some Yan Can Cook, then maybe a little galloping gourmet, and lets not forget the great chefs series (absolutely still one of the best on youtube) in the beginning of the food network there were shows like malto mario, grilling and chilling with bobby flay, and of course emeril. the production value and entertainment value was nothing like it is now, but my creative brain understood the food and technique aspects and i liked it.
today, television seems to be a cheap whisper of an idea two people away. the old movie running man seems to always jump into my mind. people fighting to entertain a crowd, and come to think of it, that sounds a lot like the story of david in the bible. wow. or the book farenheit 451. i know my analogies can become a bit off center, and maybe a bit elaborate, but it is the same thought process that allows me to cook amazing food!
to television or not to television.
on one hand. i have struggled and sacrificed in order to be able to learn about food. it may have been easier to get a 'normal' job when i was younger, with all the 'normal' things like stability and financial security. but i didn't. so why should anyone else profit from my struggle? for money? for fame? i am not sure.
for now the answer is to not television, and treat each person i meet with the utmost attention possible. be here now. the only two days that do not matter are yesterday and tomorrow.
keep reading. i will keep cooking.
you do you. imma do me.
